Lipstick has always been a favourite beauty product of ours. The right colour lipstick has the power to put a spring in your step, even on a Monday! The amount of shades available these days is inconceivable, with everything from “Bebe Doll” pink from Curtis Collection’s Glam Lipstick range, or their “Luscious Cherry” red from their Lip Velvet range.
With all these fun shades it’s astonishing that many ladies out there only own one lipstick, and rarely adventure outside a typical red or pink. This blog aims to help you break outside your lipstick comfort zone!
Beauty Therapist Tip One: Know Your Skin Tone
This is super easy! All you have to do is check out the veins on the inside of your wrist. If your veins are purple/blue you have a cool skin tone, if your veins are green you have a warm skin tone. If you’re staring at your veins, not knowing if they are green or blue, don’t panic! Your skin tone is neutral, and you have won the skin tone lottery!
Beauty Therapist Tip Two: Choosing Your Lipstick
Now you know your skin tone, picking a bright lipstick is easy. If you have cool toned skin, steer towards lip colours with blue or purple undertones. If you have warm toned skin, steer towards lip colours with coral and orange undertones.
Take a step back from the lipstick display and find one that catches your eye and test it on the inside of your arm. Simply pick the one you like the best and go for it, darling!
Beauty Therapist Tip Three: How to Ace Your Bright Lip
When it comes to bright lips, it’s all about the lip prep! Firstly, you’ll want to remove any dead skin from your lips, so you have a nice and smooth base for your new fabulous lip colour. You can do this with a lip scrub, or even giving your lips a gentle buff with your toothbrush. Now you’ll want to prime your lips. If you don’t have a lip primer, foundation will work. Then apply some concealer around your lip line to help stop any colour bleeding. If you’ve gone the whole hog and bought yourself some lipliner two, trace that on and now you can apply your lipstick.
Beauty Therapist Tip Four: Practise!
If you’re lashing out on your bright lipstick for an event, wear it around the house, or on the weekend to get used to it and perfect your application. Remember that even the best make-up artists probably started out with lipstick they stole from their mum or cheap stuff from K-Mart. The more practise you get in and the more colours you try, the more confidence you’ll have when it comes to wearing bright lipstick!
